Carmilla
These costume designs were created for a design class at Toronto Metropolitan University.
Carmilla is one of the earliest works of Vampire fiction and laid the framework for the complex eroticism popular in the Vampire genre. My reinterpretation takes place in post-war Austria and explores the queer subtext of Carmilla through the aesthetics of Old Hollywood and the classic Noir genre. Sexuality and bodily autonomy were complicated topics in this era, providing a unique perspective of their relationship.
